What is InsureID?

InsureID, powered by Okta, is the foundation for secure connections between people and technology. InsureID allows you to login once, securely connecting clients, partners, and customers to the applications and tools they need.

What is Multifactor Authentication?

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is an additional step to verify your identity when you sign in to an application. Using MFA keeps your account more secure, because it makes it more difficult for hackers to steal all the information necessary to impersonate you. What is a security “factor”?

The ‘factor’ in MFA refers to a method of verifying your identity. The most basic type of factor is your password, which is often the primary, or initial authentication factor you’ll be prompted for. Your organization may choose to ask for more factors to complement your password. These additional factors could range from an app on your phone that generates a code for you to enter after you’ve typed in your password to a USB key you have to insert into your computer, or even a fingerprint scan.

Which MFA Factors Does InsureID Support?

InsureID supports a number of factors including SMS authentication, Google Authenticator, Okta Verify, and Voice Call.

How Does InsureID Keep MFA Factors Secure?

InsureID encrypts your user credentials using two different software locks called keys. It stores user data and the keys used to unlock that data in separate databases. For extra security, it then encrypts the keys in three different ways for even stronger protection. No one person at InsureID can access the encrypted master key, and InsureID maintains an audit trail to show how it manages the keys.

How Do I Scan an Okta Verify QR Code?

You only need to scan a QR code when you set up Okta Verify on a new mobile device. To change devices, download Okta Verify onto your new device, and log in to https://insureid.okta.com on a computer. Click on your username in the top menu, and select 'Settings'.

On this page, click 'Edit Profile', enter your password and (if enabled) a second factor. Then in the Extra Verification section, click 'Reset' next to the Okta Verify mobile app. A warning message will appear to alert you that you will be reconfiguring your Multi-Factor Authentication. Click 'Yes' to proceed.

Select 'Setup' in the Extra Verification section. Choose the new mobile device operating system you are using (iPhone, Android, or Windows) and it will ask you to install the software. If you have installed Okta Verify, click 'Next' and a QR code will appear on the screen.

Using the camera on your mobile device, focus the camera on the QR code. The mobile device will scan the code and your computer will be set up.

Finally, return to your mobile device to finish setup. Six numbers will appear on your device in the Okta Verify app. On your computer, click 'Next' to enter the code from your device, then click 'Verify'. If your organization has enabled Okta Verify with Push, you can also send a push notification to your mobile device by clicking on the 'Push to Device' button.
